Relief from Heat for Senior Citizens

With heat and humidity levels rising, the City of Jackson encourages senior citizens  to seek comfort from high temperatures at any of the city's multi-purpose Senior Citizens Community Centers. Operated by the Department of Human & Cultural Services, Division of Senior Services, the centers offer seniors comfortable refuge during the day plus activities and programs that promote community involvement and self-sufficiency.

All qualified individuals aged 55 years or older and living inside the city limits of Jackson are eligible for select programs and services.

The following is a listing of community centers available in the City of Jackson to senior citizens:

  • Northside Community Center (104 East Northside Drive) 601-960-2166
  • Smith Robertson Community Center (505 John Hart Street) 601-2167
  • T. L. Love Community Center (2912 Holmes Avenue) 601-960-2160
  • Johnnie Champion Community Center (1355 Hattiesburg Street) 601-960-1918

All centers are open from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The hours of operation will be extended as needed.  Weekend services will be provided upon request.
