Historically black university now has new leadership

Donna Oliver was recommended for the position at Mississippi Valley State University Monday.

Oliver is the provost and vice president of academic affairs at Edwards College in Jacksonville, Florida.

She will meet with faculty and staff at the college in Itta Bena on October 21st before the college board gives final approval.

Mississippi Valley State has been without a permanent leader since July 2007 when former President Lester Newman resigned. He stepped down after the faculty criticized his leadership style and called for his dismissal.

Roy C. Hudson has been interim president at the university since Newman's resignation.
