Alabama Wins All Star Showdown

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - AJ McCarron connected with Raphael Poellnitz on two touchdown passes and Alabama's defense forced five turnovers in a 28-3 victory over Mississippi in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Saturday.

McCarron finished 9-for-16 passing for 162 yards and two touchdowns for Alabama, and Shawn Southward scored on two runs in the high school football showcase. Mississippi's offense struggled from the opening kickoff, as quarterback Tyler Russell threw an interception on his first pass.

The all-stars from Mississippi ran eight plays in the first quarter, throwing an interception, losing a fumble and allowing one sack. Alabama, meanwhile put together touchdown drives of 71, 70 and 52 yards in the first half.

Travis Bradley kicked a 39-yard field goal for Mississippi.
