Job Shadowing and Mentoring

Local high school student and college student spends a day shadowing an employee to determine if that business offers a future career path for their interest.

WLBT News Producer coordinated and accommodated the job shadow for 1 Clinton High School student.  He instructed the student here at the station in communications related topics throughout the year.

Student Internship Program

Describe Scope of Broadcasters' Participation (including names of any other sponsoring or participating organizations):

WLBT-TV offers internships to college students as a way to assess jobs and job readiness. These internships are granted to junior and senior students majoring in Communications, Mass Communications, Journalism and Broadcast Journalism from various accredited colleges and universities throughout the U.S. who have received the approval from the Dean/Chairman and/or academic advisor of their respective department(s). Upon successful completion of the program, the student received 3-4 hours of credit and a letter grade. Students were assigned to work with specific News Department staffers.

Describe Nature of Initiative:

Provide training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination.

Describe Scope of Broadcasters' Participation (including names of any other sponsoring or participating organizations):

WLBT-TV, through its parent company Raycom Media, provided an on-line training course titled "Discrimination-Free Workplace".  This on-line training course was completed by all station Department Heads and hiring supervisors.  The course covered what constitutes discrimination and how to prevent it from occurring in the workplace.
